3.8 Refunds

Refunds can be used when you want to show a full/partial refund back to a patient.
Go To: BILLING > PATIENT ACCOUNTING> PATIENT ACCOUNTS

Using this option will still account for the original payment & any original payments will still appear in Payment Summary Reports. If you are needing to reverse a payment that was applied in error & wish to fully remove a payment from the system & not have it appear in accounting history, you should use the delete/revert payment option in Section 3.1 outlined in the manual.

PROVIDING A REFUND TO A PATIENT:

  1. Select Patient Refund button

  2. Post Date, Amount, Method of Refund

  3. Select Encounter/Charge: You must connect the refund to a DOS/Encounter/Extra Charges and enter refund amount

  4. Click Process Refund when done.

  5. Optional: Print or email receipt

  6. Click Done

This will now show up on the patient refund column.  If you do not plan on collecting this money you can adjust the balance off of the charge.  See Section 3.2 In the manual for more information on Adjustments.

If this is done as an OpenEdge transaction, after you click Process Refund, the pop up window will appear to process the refund through OpenEdge.
